Juhi’s next breakfast destination- Guptaji’s home

Image
Juhi’s next breakfast destination- Guptaji’s home Juhi stomped her feet and banged the dishes in the kitchen hard. It was the same irritating scene every morning. Every day, when she would serve breakfast to her family she would only get to hear one thing, “I’m tired of the same old stuff”. This had become a common way for everyone to avoid the most important meal of the day. She was at her wits end, at how to turn the most boring meal of the day into the most interesting one. Try as she might, innovation in the few minutes she had every morning was really difficult. The morning was not only about getting the children ready for school, preparing their lunchboxes and dropping them off to the bus stop. It was also about catering to the demands of the biggest baby of the house- her husband (who could never find anything and hated whatever she served for breakfast) and getting herself out of the door too in time for work. She really did not have the time or energy left to put

The Screams

The Screams Image Source Little Natalie stood transfixed; watching in horror as an inferno of towering flames engulfed her home. “Help! Help! Mama and Daddy are inside!” she screamed. “Everything’s alright dear” said Robert in hushed tone, trying to calm down a shattered Natalie. “I hope you are not annoyed with my nightmares everyday honey?” she sobbed uncontrollably. “I wish I could take your pain away darling”, said Robert as he wiped her tears and held her close. The Edge of the World

Image
The Edge of the World Sneha clasped her hands together tightly to quell the trembling of her fingers. Taking several deep breaths, she wiped the sweat off her forehead. Who or what had taken over her perky, self confident persona? It was becoming impossible to identify with the bumbling jangle of nerves she had suddenly turned into. Agreed today was crucial for her. This moment felt as if she was about to jump off the edge of the world . Should she take a leap into the unknown and leave everything behind to pursue her dream of becoming an entrepreneur? Or was it wiser to stay back and remain in the comfort of a safe and secure life with a paycheck guaranteed at the end of every month? Thinking back to the time she was a little child she remembered her grandfather’s words, “Little pet, never fear anything, even the moment you feel you are standing on the edge of the world, for it is not the edge but a ledge of new opportunities and possibilities ”. The little things that make me happy

Image
So what are the small little things? Everyday a smile to your face that can bring…     In our hectic everyday lives, all of us need something that will bring a smile to our faces no matter what. It need not be something really grand, requiring a lot of effort and time. Just something simple to light up your day and make you want to break into a song despite the hard time you’re having. Imagine getting back home from a hard day at work. Navigating the gruesome traffic snarls and an endless wait, just the thought makes me want to pull out my hair in frustration. Deadlines at work and the endless list of things we have set ourselves to accomplish quite often get in the way of our general happiness levels. We spend most of our waking moments either ruing what could have been or constantly telling ourselves, “I’ll be happy only when…”. It just does not end there. Every milestone that we cross on the path to achievement somehow manages to aggravate the situation. Having got so

Chomp Chomp all day long...Hogmore's Singaporean Food Trip

Chomp Chomp all day long... Hogmore's Singaporean Food Trip My brother is a food enthusiast who dreams, lives and breathes food. If there were a 'Hogmore' clan of foodies, he would surely head it. The images of Singaporean delicacies at   http://discover.stayfareast.com/  made Mr. Foodie drool.  He was  already envisioning his trip to food heaven.   So I decided to plan out the itinerary of a short  five day food trip where he could  immerse himself in the  unique culinary delights Singapore has to offer. Thanks to the all nighters at college, he prefers brunch as the first meal of the day. Especially on holiday, he loves to load up with a lip smacking brunch and eat something on the go while he does his touristy sight seeing. Hawker food i.e. street food is a favorite all    around the world. So it's no wonder that he believes that this is the best way to explore local delicacies first hand. Chicken Satay and Hainanese Chicken Rice (I'm sure you

The story of the start of my new life #StartaNewLife Leaving those I love behind, Moving to a new land. To chase my dreams, Embracing the change, Facing my fears. Starting a new life, All over again. What is the most difficult thing you have done? For most people it would be starting all over again leaving the comfort of home behind. How do you cope with the change of not only a new city, a new home, a new person to live with and also with leaving your loved ones behind? Change is good they say. Sometimes I feel that its only when you look back you can truly appreciate the lessons change teaches you. How it teaches you to face the unknown head on and #StartaNewLife. I sat in the aircraft writing a list of all the things we would need to buy over the weekend as we moved into our new paying guest accommodation. The destination was Mumbai- The city of dreams. The excitement of starting a new job and moving to a new city took over the sadness I was feel

My lookup story #lookup

My lookup story #lookup When defeat stares you in the face, #lookup and fight it. When things don’t go as per plan, #lookup and keep going. When you feel the tears coming, #lookup and keep the brave smile on. When things are impossible, #lookup, for giving in is the easy way. It was the second semester of my engineering. Just two weeks before the semester was about to end fever, cold and rashes gripped my normal healthy self. A few days with the illness and I wasn't able to even walk. Staying in a hostel, far away from home my aunt rushed me to her place till my parents arrived. Diagnosis confirmed the dreaded dengue fever and I was admitted into hospital with my parents maintaining a constant vigil. My classmates informed my professors and everyone expressed their pity that I would not be able to sit for the exams that semester. That meant a backlog for all the exams I wouldn't be able to appear for plus new exams the next semester. It was an im

The Power of Togetherness #Together

The Power of Togetherness #Together When life doesn't seem to go your way, Sorrow seems to color your days. How do you get your smile back? And get your life onto the right track. Only the togetherness of a cherished one, Can make you look up and have some fun! "Oh! no! What next?” I screamed on the top of my lungs. The screen on my laptop danced a scary dance. Alternating between blue, green, pink and black it finally breathed its last. Shutting the lid with a loud thud, I grabbed an umbrella and stormed out if the house. Nothing seemed to be going right that week. Everything I tried to accomplish didn't work as per plan. Getting through each minute seemed a herculean task. Somehow it was impossible to figure out what was leading to my despondency. All of us have bad days, sometimes even weeks that extended into months. Then why was it becoming impossible to deal with this phase. Was it just the gruesome weather, endless rain lashing the city
